The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has begun preparations for this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebrations, with the support of several government companies and councils.

Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, confirmed to PSM yesterday that the Eid lights will be switched on the night of the 29th of this month, accompanied by a special event in collaboration with government entities. The lighting campaign, he explained, was first launched during the tenure of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as Mayor of Malé, and expanded last year to cover the whole country under his leadership. Umar added that the initiative has gained popularity, particularly among children and young people.

This year, Eid lights will be sent to 36 additional islands, bringing the total number of islands to be illuminated to 65. The installation work in Malé City is already underway, with participation from Stelco, various government companies, HDC, and the Malé City Council. State Minister Ahmed Rasheed shared that the lights and speakers will be dispatched to the 36 new islands on the 24th of this month.

The grand Eid light event will take place on the 29th of this month at Central Park in Hulhumalé, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu scheduled to attend.
