North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim highlighted public concerns, particularly regarding the notably higher charges on April’s electricity bills. These concerns were widely discussed on social media platforms, with many residents comparing current bills to previous ones and questioning the underlying reasons. In response to public outcry, STELCO had initially made some concessions.

However, subsequent bills continued to show marked increases, prompting renewed public discontent. Ibrahim pointed out a lack of transparency in bill details accessible to consumers, noting that even when information was provided, bills were often based on averaged calculations.

The motion calls for an investigation into the escalating bills issued by both STELCO and Fenaka, emphasising the need for transparency in disclosing billing particulars to the public.

In response to social media criticisms, STELCO stated that customers have continuous access to their usage and associated charges. During the peak of complaints in April, STELCO attributed the rise in billing amounts to exceptionally warm weather conditions prevailing at that time.
