Faris Maumoon Pledges Affordable Essential Services and Basic Foods

Independent candidate Ahmed Faris Maumoon has announced his intention to lower the prices of water, electricity, essential services and staple foods in an effort to alleviate the cost of living as part of his campaign pledges.
His manifesto was presented during a dedicated event hosted at Sultan Park.

The focal points of the manifesto encompass a wide array of subjects, spanning from socio-economic considerations to matters of faith. Among the proposed measures are strategies to enhance the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), initiatives for the rehabilitation of individuals with criminal backgrounds, plans for tax reform, and efforts to augment the salaries allocated to local councils.
Addressing the attendees at the gathering, Faris articulated that his manifesto was designed to usher in substantial transformations across various sectors. He additionally acknowledged the prevailing trepidation among citizens, stemming from the brief history of democracy within the nation and the decisions made by political entities.
A pivotal aspect of the manifesto is the proposal to institute a streamlined mechanism for the removal of parliamentarians who fail to adequately represent the interests of their constituents. Faris outlined his intention to create avenues through which constituents can file petitions for the removal of their elected representatives, subsequently enabling a by-election to select a replacement.
Furthermore, Faris asserted his ability to make such a commitment owing to the absence of parliamentary representatives from his party. He posited that candidates aligned with other parties would face obstacles in making analogous assertions due to the influence exerted by their party’s parliamentarians.
He emphasised his decision to prioritize parliamentary reform, attributing it to his responsiveness to the concerns voiced by citizens and his recognition of the necessity for policies aligned with the populace’s welfare.
