Feasibility Study Completed to Build Hospital in Villimale’

The government has signed a memorandum with the Chinese Embassy after completion of a feasibility study to build a 100-bed hospital in Villimale’ the small suburban island near Male’ City.

Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure announced today that the memorandum was signed between Minister Abdulla Muththalib and Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives, Her Excellency Wang Lixin.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dharumavantha Hospital, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, Senior officials of the ministry, Chinese Embassy and Male City Group of Hospitals also joined the ceremony.

Following the event, Minister Muththalib said in a post on X that establishing the hospital is a key pledge by the President and praised the Maldives-China partnership saying it plays a vital role in the country’s infrastructure development.

The project will now move to the design and procurement stage.

According to the last census, there are only 6755 people living in Villimale. The government-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) is located just a few minutes away from the Malé–Villimale’ ferry terminal, with the ferry ride taking approximately 10 minutes.
