Feline Welfare Organisation Launches Cat Registration and Medication Programme

The Feline Welfare Organisation has initiated a new programme aimed at addressing a disease currently affecting cats.
This disease, which exclusively impacts felines and has a low survival rate, has prompted the organisation to start registering and medicating cats.

The programme was officially launched yesterday by Dr Aishath Rameela, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare. During the launch, Dr Rameela administered medicine to a cat, named ‘Goldy’, and registered it under the new scheme.
Feline Welfare Organisation explained that the medication, donated by the organisation Care for Paws, was administered to cats in a parking lot near Marry Brown.
On the first day of the programme, 80 cats were registered. They also emphasised the importance of this documentation for tracking the disease and the treatment provided.
To further address the city’s feline population, the government is constructing a dedicated facility for cats in Hulhumale. With over 3,000 cats estimated to be in the city, the facility aims to accommodate and care for them.
