State-owned utility provider FENAKA Corporation Limited has reported significant progress in expanding its water and sewerage services across the Maldives during the past year.
In 2024, FENAKA extended its water supply services to 21 additional islands and introduced sewerage systems in four more. With these expansions, the corporation’s network now spans 107 islands nationwide.
Acknowledging the challenges faced, FENAKA stated it had prioritised the establishment and maintenance of essential services in the islands despite financial constraints. Special efforts were made to ensure uninterrupted services and enhance infrastructure.
The company reported over 31,092 active water connections, supported by a daily fresh water production capacity of 10,661 tonnes. Production capacity was further increased by 564 tonnes per day in five islands last year. Additionally, 360 new households were connected to the water network.
To improve sustainability, FENAKA integrated 22 islands into a new billing system introduced in September 2023. This system aims to provide more efficient and reliable water services.
