Fire Breaks Out in STELCO Headquarters, Contained by MNDF Firefighters

A fire broke out in the engine room of the State Electric Company (STELCO) headquarters in Male’ earlier today.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) reported that the fire was detected at 06:19 am and the Fire and Rescue Service was immediately notified.

According to the MNDF, the fire originated from a smoke pipe in one of the main engines. Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze by around 06:30 am. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
STELCO confirmed that no major damage occurred in the fire and assured that it would not cause any disruptions to the power supply. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
