The newly established vocational lab is to provide students with practical skills, including cooking, sewing, carpentry, and various forms of arts and crafts.
In addition to the general vocational education training labs, the Ministry of Education has outlined plans to introduce specialised labs dedicated to specific skill sets, such as air conditioning repair, electronic work, and carpentry.
Under the Atoll Education Development Project (AEDP), the Ministry is embarking on the establishment of vocational labs in 28 schools across the nation.
The funding for the Atoll Education Development Project totals USD 10 million. This financial backing consists of a USD 4.5 million grant, a USD 4.5 million credit from the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s concessional credit facility for developing nations, and an additional contribution of USD 1 million in counterpart funds from the Government of the Maldives.
