The Ministry of Social and Family Development has announced that thirty-seven eligible patients have been selected to receive the first round of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatments covered by the Aasandha Insurance Scheme.

Out of 153 applicants for IVF and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) treatments sponsored by the State, thirty-seven candidates met the eligibility criteria and have been chosen to undergo the initial round of treatments.

This initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to support women who are unable to conceive naturally. The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), which manages all state health insurance schemes, had earlier extended the application window for these treatments under the Aasandha scheme. This pledge, part of the current administration’s 100-day roadmap, was implemented on 15 March.

An announcement from NSPA stated that 135 people applied for sponsored treatments during the extended timeframe, with 37 meeting the criteria. The agency confirmed that arrangements have been made to facilitate treatment for all eligible applicants in this first round.

The NSPA has also committed to sharing information and treatment plans with recipients before 30 July. Additionally, the application deadline has been extended until the end of July for those who did not submit all required documents initially, as well as new applicants. Those previously deemed ineligible due to changes in their circumstances may also reapply during this extended window.

This year, financial assistance for IVF and IUI treatments will be provided to 100 eligible couples who accumulate the highest number of points. Criteria for points distribution include marital duration, age, number of existing children, housing situation, and income range.

NSPA stated that both local and foreign hospitals included in the Aasandha insurance scheme will provide the IVF and IUI treatments.
