Four Arrested in India for Attempting to Smuggle Hashish Oil to Maldives

India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has detained four individuals attempting to smuggle hashish oil to the Maldives.

According to Indian media, the detainees were found in possession of 12 kilograms of hashish oil. The operation followed intelligence reports about the planned smuggling, prompting the DRI to bolster security measures at India’s Tuticorin Port.

Reports indicate that two individuals travelling on a motorcycle were intercepted during the operation. A search revealed 12 cans of hashish oil.

The street value of hashish oil is estimated at MVR 1.8 million per kilogram, making the total value of the seized drugs approximately MVR 21 million.

The arrested individuals include a 34-year-old, a 33-year-old, a 56-year-old, and a 30-year-old. Among them, the 56-year-old is reported to be a yacht crew member, while the 30-year-old works for the Central Industrial Security Force. The latter is accused of providing false clearance at security checkpoints to aid in the smuggling attempt.
