President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said the government aims to provide air conditioning to all classrooms in the Maldives by this September.

Speaking to the residents of Raa Atoll Hulhudhuffaaru this morning, the president said equipping schools with relevant resources and facilities is important to ensure the holistic development of the younger generation.

According to the President’s Office, he added that in addition to providing air conditioning units to schools, he will also be committing to renewable energy projects to schools.

“We are aiming to achieve this as soon as possible, by September,” he said in Dhivehi while addressing the residents of Hulhudhuffaaru.

In his address to the residents, the President said his administration prioritises enhancing and upgrading educational facilities. He added that such investments would create a better environment for students to pursue academic excellence and complete their education.

Noting that the existing school premises are insufficient for current demands, the President pledged to seek a solution. He also pledged additional projects for the school’s development in the coming years.

The President further noted that students from nearby islands have migrated to Hulhudhuffaaru, which, he said, has exacerbated the need for dormitories. Construction of these is to begin within two years.

During the President’s visit, ATM services were also launched on the island. The Bank of Maldives (BML) signed an agreement with the Council to start the service, and Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) also commenced services for Hulhudhuffaaru.

He also met with members of the Hulhudhuffaaru Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and the heads of institutions to discuss the island’s developmental needs.

He is on the second day of a three-day tour of the Raa Atoll islands. Before he returns to Male’ tomorrow, he is set to visit ten islands in the atoll in total.
