The government has announced that Bageecha Hin’gun, the road encircling Hulhumalé Central Park, will be designated as a one-way street.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) revealed that it is currently undertaking efforts to modify the traffic flow in several areas of Hulhumalé. Presently, work is focused on marking lines and installing signboards to establish Bageecha Hin’gun as a one-way road.

This phase of the project is expected to be completed soon, with the road set to open to the public by Saturday, according to HDC.

In total, 11 areas in Hulhumalé are undergoing changes to address traffic issues and enhance road safety. The ongoing project aims to construct roundabouts and install signboards in the remaining 10 locations within this year.

HDC stated that these adjustments are essential for reducing traffic congestion and accidents, thereby making the roads safer for everyone. The corporation added that the specific locations were selected based on data from HDC and the Maldives Police Service to identify high-traffic and high-risk areas.

Once modifications in all 11 locations are finalised, it is anticipated that traffic flow within Hulhumalé will improve significantly, reducing congestion and enhancing safety for both vehicles and pedestrians, HDC reported.
