Gov’t Announces Scholarships for Maldivian Students to Study in Japan

The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has announced a new scholarship opportunity for Maldivian students to study at universities in Japan. 

This initiative, part of the ‘Japanese Government Scholarship for 2025,’ is fully funded by the Japanese Government.

In the announcement, the Ministry detailed that the Japanese Embassy has extended this opportunity to Maldivian students. The selection process, which includes tests and interviews, will be conducted by the Japanese Embassy in the Maldives.

The scholarship covers three categories:

  • Research Students: Application deadline is 27 May.
  • Specialised Training College Students: Application deadline is 3 June.
  • College of Technology Students: Application deadline is 3 June.

Further details on the courses and application procedures are available through the online application form provided by the Ministry.

Additionally, the Ministry highlighted that scholarships have also been secured for Maldivian students to study in China, India, and Pakistan.

In China, 200 students will have the opportunity to pursue their Master’s degrees.

India has offered 34 fully funded scholarships exclusively for Maldivian students.

In Pakistan, Bahria University in Islamabad is offering scholarships in 10 fields of specialisation.
