Gov’t Announces Temporary Road Traffic Ban for Independence Day Celebrations

Male’ City Council has announced a temporary ban on road traffic from 4 to 6 pm on Independence Day to facilitate a march conducted by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Cadet Corps. 

This measure is intended to ensure smooth proceedings during the event.

The march, set to take place on this Friday, marks the 59th Independence Day of the Maldives. While the street march will proceed as planned, other traditional Independence Day activities, including field events and vehicle tours, have been cancelled this year.

The decision to cancel large, colourful events was made in response to the current challenging economic situation, prioritising essential celebrations while acknowledging financial constraints.
