The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure announced that work officially began last Thursday. This initiative follows a grant agreement signed during President Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to China in January.
The Ministry explained that a technical team, appointed by the Chinese government, conducted a feasibility study on the roads between 5th and 21st November. During this period, the team assessed the road conditions and engaged with key stakeholders involved in the project.
The project aims to upgrade the existing roads and includes a design phase to ensure long-term sustainability. Under the plan, roads in Malé and Villimale will be repaved, with additional improvements to water, sewerage, and electricity infrastructure. The project will also include the installation of fire hydrants and stormwater systems.
