The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has urged all relevant stakeholders to strengthen safety measures at construction sites amid ongoing strong winds and gusts.
In a statement released yesterday, the ministry called on construction companies and contractors to implement stringent safety protocols at construction sites during the southwest monsoon. The ministry warned that a lack of safety measures could lead to severe accidents with devastating consequences.

In addition to urging construction companies to enhance site safety, the ministry emphasised the need to secure lighter construction materials and equipment to prevent them from being blown away during storms.
Recent inspections have revealed that several contractors and construction site workers have been found violating safety regulations, with such cases increasing more frequently.
Earlier on Friday, a building’s surrounding fence was ripped off during heavy rain and strong winds, highlighting the need for increased vigilance.
On Saturday, Malé City Council fined construction workers MVR 500 for working without proper safety measures.

Furthermore, the ministry advised taking preventive measures against mosquitoes by eliminating potential breeding grounds at construction sites.
