Gov’t Collects 1,455 Migrant Workers’ Biodata

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan said they collected 1,455 migrant workers’ biodata from the Greater Male’ Area under “Operation Kurangi.”
Yesterday, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons (Anti-TIP) department started collecting biometric data of migrant teachers and company workers in the Male area under the ongoing Kurangi operation to ensure that migrant workers in the Maldives are here within regulations.
“In the work we did today, we have collected the 10 fingerprints of foreign workers and photographs required for facial recognition database and updated our database,” the minister said in Dhivehi, the national language of the Maldives, on a post made on X.
Additionally, he said when President Mohamed Muizzu addressed the Maldivian citizens in November, he had said the biodata from 10,000 migrant workers had been collected. In the two months since then, an additional 15,000 persons’ data have been collected.
Operation Kurangi is the first phase of the government’s three-year plan to find a solution to the migrant population issue. Minister Ihusan thanked the Ministry of Foreign Labour Department, the Maldives Immigration Service, and the Maldives Police Service for their assistance in this operation.
