The government has demolished of all unauthorised huts in Hulhumalé Phase 2, following the expiration of the removal deadline.
The food huts, located near the ‘ruhgandu’ area and the beach, were operating without the necessary permits. Housing Development Corporation (HDC) had issued an order for the removal of these structures by 15th June. Despite this directive, additional huts were established after the notice was issued, and business continued as usual.
In response to the ongoing unauthorised operations, HDC commenced the demolition of the huts and the clearance of the area this week.
Historically, similar unauthorised huts had also been operated near the Hiyaa Flat area.
According to existing regulations, huts in Hulhumalé can only be operated with kiosk operating permits, which are issued by HDC following an official application process. Numerous authorised kiosks currently operate in Hulhumalé Phase 1 and are subject to regular monitoring by HDC to ensure compliance with regulations.
