The government has expanded its national primary healthcare initiative to include Raa Atoll, aiming to enhance healthcare access across the country. The programme was officially launched in the atoll by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.

Designed to provide equitable and accessible healthcare services, the programme serves as the first point of contact for individuals seeking medical care, with the goal of ensuring that essential health services are available to all, regardless of location.

The initiative has already been introduced in five atolls this year, with plans for a nationwide rollout by the end of 2025. As part of the programme, the Ministry of Health will gather medical records and histories for all citizens aged 18 and above, in order to assess the prevalence of common diseases and to track healthcare expenditure per individual.

Additionally, healthcare professionals will conduct household visits to promote health awareness, provide information, and offer support to those receiving treatment for various conditions. The ministry has stated that the team supporting the initiative includes experienced personnel with technical expertise in the healthcare sector.
