The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has announced that discussions were held regarding a pre-feasibility study for a bridge connecting Thilafushi to Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF) via Giraavaru.

In a social media post on platform X, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib stated that he had met with a visiting high-level delegation from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The meeting focused on the feasibility study for the proposed bridge.

“This project is set to pave the way for future connectivity and progress in the region, driving economic growth and enhancing regional integration,” the ministry commented.

The bridge project was initially announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during this year’s Independence Day ceremony. He outlined plans for work to begin in 2026, with completion expected within three years.

Plans for the bridge were also proposed by the previous administration under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, though the project had not been contracted during his tenure.
