The Ministry of Education has issued a directive advising schools nationwide to stop requiring teachers to work during term holidays.
In a circular issued to schools across the country today, the Ministry said schools were prohibited from making teachers work in schools during the first and second term holidays, as well as the mid-term break.
Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, Minister for Education, had previously pledged to reduce the workload of teachers and principals. This directive aligns with his commitment to improve the working conditions for educators.
Additionally, the Ministry has advised against the creation of separate class chat groups on the Viber messaging platform, following concerns from teachers about the continuous activity in these chats.
Minister Shafeeu has also stated that principals will be advised to refrain from requiring teachers to work after 6pm in single-session schools and after 9pm in double-session schools.
