The reclamation and development of several lagoons within the Greater Malé Region are key elements of the government’s broader development master plan, with the Rasmale’ project standing as a flagship initiative announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Many of these projects are already in progress, with priority being given to the provision of essential services.

Speaking to PSM News, MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhy confirmed that efforts are underway to develop a strong transport network linking these areas. He highlighted MTCC’s partnership with the Ministry of Transport to create comprehensive transportation models for the region. Saudhy also underscored President Muizzu’s vision of connecting Rasmale’, Giraavarufalhu, and Gulhifalhu through an integrated transport system.

Saudhy further explained that the recent change in the bus service start time in the Greater Malé Region, now commencing at 5:00 AM instead of 6:00 AM, is part of this ongoing development. MTCC is actively gathering data to better understand peak travel hours and user demand, as part of its efforts to optimise the transport network.
