In a video presentation, the Ministry outlined that shifting the timings for larger waste disposal vehicles to operate solely during nighttime hours will help alleviate congestion issues in the Greater Male’ area. These vehicles will now operate strictly from 20:00hrs to 05:00hrs.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, along with other relevant authorities, will oversee the implementation of this new regulation. Additionally, the government has decided to revise the timings for waste disposal in the Greater Male’ area, setting them from 22:00hrs to 05:00hrs, though it did not specify when this new schedule will take effect.

Previously, under former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, cargo transportation and heavy-vehicle movement were restricted from 18:00hrs to 06:00hrs. However, this restriction was annulled during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.

The daytime movement of heavy-duty cargo transport and waste disposal vehicles has often caused significant congestion, particularly during office and school hours, leading to frequent public complaints. The current administration is now taking a more proactive approach to address these congestion issues in the capital city.
