The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development has opened student loan applications for those who require financial assistance for higher education or further technical training in the Maldives or abroad.

In a gazetted announcement on March 29, the ministry announced 500 opportunities for people wishing to pursue education abroad, from diplomas to PhDs. Interested students should submit their applications through the MyEdu portal by 1:30 p.m.,  April 30.

The government is offering student loans under two categories: for students beginning their studies for the first time and for current students who require financial assistance. Each applicant may submit only one application. Submitting multiple applications through the MyEdu portal will result in disqualification.

The Ministry of Higher Education is also offering a Top-Up Loan for students whose study duration exceeds the initially estimated period due to circumstances beyond their control. The Top-Up loan is also applicable to students who have to do an internship or additional training for their courses. The ministry stated that such requests must not exceed MVR 700,000.

Once students submit their application, they can track its status via the MyEdu portal. The status “Application Submitted” confirms the ministry has received the application. “Application Complete” indicates all required information has been provided. If the status reads “Application Incomplete & Requires Resubmission,” the applicant must reapply with the missing documents or details.

The status “Resubmitted Application Received” confirms that the ministry has received the updated submission.

After the selection process, the portal will display the final outcome as either “Selected,” “Not Selected,” or “Disqualified,” depending on the result of the evaluation.

The ministry has published further information on the application process, including eligibility criteria and required documents, in its official higher education announcement.
