She stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu possesses the authority to effect personnel changes within state institutions and companies, and that the recent adjustments were carried out in accordance with this authority.

Heena further indicated that Muizzu will continue to enact changes as deemed necessary to “facilitate his objectives, enhance efficiency, and improve governance” within the government, although she refrained from providing specific details.

In the past two days, several alterations to top political roles have been implemented, including the dismissal of Fathimath Thaufeeq from her position as Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), along with the removal of Ahmed Samah Rasheed as Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), and the departure of Ahmed Zuhoor from his role as Chairman of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

Fathimath’s dismissal from MMPRC occurred on Wednesday, following the resignation of Aisha Nurain Janah from her position as the corporation’s chairperson.

Rafil Mohamed, another senior official at MMPRC representing the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) on the board, had previously resigned in April.

The restructuring within MMPRC comes amid speculation of tensions between Nurain, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, and Fathimath, although such rumours were refuted by Faisal.

Meanwhile, Samah’s removal from his role at MIFCO on Tuesday was followed by his appointment as a State Minister at the Fisheries Ministry the subsequent day.
