Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has revealed that 23 parties have expressed interest in spearheading the development of a nature park, aligning with the government’s initiative to establish such parks in every atoll.
The announcement came during a press conference where Minister Thoriq reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing such parks in every atoll, as outlined in their manifesto.
The opportunity to participate in the development of nature parks was unveiled at the end of January, with Minister Thoriq revealing that 23 individuals have already submitted their expressions of interest. The Ministry is currently in the process of evaluating the documents provided by these individuals.
Minister Thoriq also outlined that once the assessment of expressions of interest (EOI) is finalized, subsequent tasks related to the establishment of nature parks will commence later this year.
In addition to the creation of nature parks, the current administration aims to establish three biosphere reserves within the presidential term. To date, only one application expressing interest in establishing a biosphere reserve has been received, with the ministry currently undergoing evaluation.
These initiatives align with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to establish nature parks in every atoll and develop three additional biosphere reserves during his tenure in office.
