Gov’t Signs With Saudi Fund for Development for Second Loan Agreement for VIA Expansion

The Government of Maldives and the Saudi Fund for Development signed an agreement yesterday for the second additional loan agreement for the expansion of Velana International Airport (VIA).
Under the agreement that was signed yesterday at the President’s Office, SAR 63,750,000 was pledged to the Maldives as additional funds.
Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer and SFD Chief Executive Officer Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Murshid (O.D.R.M.D) signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Maldives and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), respectively.

This financial support aims to accelerate the development of Velana International Airport (VIA), which is projected to drive economic growth. In addition to increasing VIA’s passenger capacity, the project seeks to enhance trade and connectivity, contributing positively to the tourism industry.
