President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced on Thursday that the government is implementing policies to ensure affordable prices for fruit and vegetables.
He said this on the first episode of Rayyithunnaa Eku, meaning With the Citizens, a podcast hosted by the President’s Office. Citizens are welcome to send in their questions to the president directly via Rayithunge Adu portal linked on the President’s Office website.
Responding to a public inquiry about government efforts to support public health, he revealed that the Administration has introduced a policy to ensure food safety while increasing domestic food production. He explained that ongoing efforts aim to cultivate imported fruit and vegetables locally, reducing market prices.
Additionally, he highlighted plans to lower the cost of commonly imported fruit and vegetables supplied through the State Trading Organisation (STO) by securing better purchasing agreements.
President Muizzu stated that the government will provide further details on these initiatives as arrangements progress.
