Gov’t to Launch Teacher Training and Air Conditioning Program for Schools
The Minister of Education, Dr Ismail Shafeeu, has announced a program to train teachers and install air conditioning units in all state-owned educational facilities will commence with the new academic year starting on 26 May.
Schools have consistently faced challenges due to a shortage of teachers, particularly in specialised subjects, at the beginning of each academic year. In a Facebook post, Minister Shafeeu promised significant improvements to the education system for the upcoming school year.
The Minister assured that the government would implement a nationwide initiative to enhance teacher training and install air conditioning in all government schools. He emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring the teaching profession is respected and to reducing the workload on teachers.
Dr Shafeeu outlined that efforts would be made to dignify the teaching profession and reduce the amount of time teachers need to spend in schools. In addition to the training programs, the Minister confirmed that air conditioning units would be installed in all schools within two years.
Currently, some educational facilities are struggling with extreme heat due to the lack of air conditioning. This has forced some schools to seek assistance from parents to procure fans and air conditioning units. The Ministry of Education has faced significant criticism over this issue.
The government’s new initiative aims to address these concerns by ensuring a comfortable learning environment and better support for educators nationwide.
