Heavy rainfall in the central Maldives has led to flooding in Maafushi, a popular destination known for its local tourism activities.
In response to the flooding, the Maafushi Council took immediate action, creating a makeshift channel to divert floodwaters from the roads into the sea. Subsequently, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) deployed pumps to expedite the drainage process, working to alleviate the situation.

The flooding has reportedly disrupted some local tourism businesses, adding to the challenges faced by the island’s community.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a white alert covering regions from Shaviyani atoll to Faafu atoll, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The adverse weather conditions are accompanied by strong winds, with speeds reaching up to 40 mph.
MET forecasts indicate that the current weather patterns are likely to improve by the middle of next week.
