Heavy Rainfall Recorded in Malé Over 24 Hours

Malé experienced significant rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the automatic weather station in the capital recording 136.5mm of rainfall from 8:00 am on December 20 to 8:00 am on December 21, 2024.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) reported that Malé saw the highest rainfall accumulation during this period, followed closely by neighbouring Hulhulé with 117.4mm. Other islands also recorded substantial rainfall, with B. Dharavandhoo registering 111.5mm and Hulhumalé measuring 62.2mm.

The Met Office highlighted nine islands with the most accumulated rainfall during this timeframe:
- Malé: 136.5mm
- Hulhulé: 117.4mm
- B. Dharavandhoo: 111.5mm
- Hulhumalé: 62.2mm
- K. Gaafaru: 70.7mm
- AA. Thoddoo: 61.2mm
- K. Kaashidhoo: 58.7mm
- B. Goidhoo: 56.6mm
- K. Dhiffushi: 52.1mm
The heavy rainfall has caused minor flooding in parts of Malé. Authorities urge residents to remain cautious as unsettled weather conditions are expected to persist.

Authorities have also advised boat operators and travellers to exercise vigilance due to rough sea conditions accompanying the rainfall.
