The Himmafushi Council allocated 288 land plots to residents from the reclaimed area in K. Himmafushi, yesterday.
With a current population of over 1,200 residents, the move aims to address housing challenges, particularly in households where multiple families coexist.
This initiative follows a prior allocation of 38 land plots in 2013. In 2015, approximately 22 hectares of land were reclaimed in Himmafushi. The council made efforts to distribute land plots in the reclaimed area during 2018 and 2019, with 450 applicants meeting the criteria. However, the distribution was subsequently cancelled, and no plots were allocated at that time.
The Himmafushi Island Council offered 288 land plots, each spanning 1,600 square feet. Interested individuals can submit their applications between February 26 and April 19. The council emphasises that all plots will be allocated to residents, aiming to alleviate the prevailing housing challenges on the island.
Furthermore, the council revealed plans to release more land plots from the reclaimed area for bidding in the future.
These plots have been strategically designated in the land use plan for diverse purposes, including business ventures, industrial activities, and the establishment of guesthouses.
