A member of the Himmafushi Island Council in Kaafu Atoll, Wafiyya Ibrahim, has been hospitalised in Malé after being electrocuted during flooding that affected the council offices yesterday.
Reports indicate that Wafiyya was attempting to unplug a computer in the council office when the incident occurred. She was reportedly drenched from heavy rainfall at the time.
Wafiyya is currently receiving treatment at ADK Hospital in Malé. Officials from the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works visited the hospital last night to inquire about her condition.
Himmafushi has been among the islands most severely impacted by continuous heavy rains over the past two days, which have caused widespread flooding in central atolls. The council office was reportedly inundated by the floods.
Images and videos circulating on social media depict extensive flooding across the island, with some homes experiencing power outages.
