President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assured the Haa Alifu Atoll Hoarafushi residents yesterday Hoarafushi’s housing project is included in this year’s budget.
He made this remark during his address to the residents of Hoarafushi as part of his ongoing tour of Haa Alifu Atoll. Speaking specifically about Hoarafushi’s development, Muizzu announced that the government has opened contractor bidding for housing units across various islands. The nationwide mega housing project the Ministry of Finance and Planning announced includes 200 housing units that will be developed in Hoarafushi.
As per the announcement on the Gazette, the Hoarafushi’s housing project falls under Category 3, which is islands where 200-250 housing units will be developed. The mega housing project pledges to develop 12,000 housing units in total across 57 islands.
Muizzu also emphasised his commitment to fulfilling his pledges, stating that these promises were made with the conviction that they are essential to realising the community’s aspirations.
Additionally, Muizzu stated that every Maldivian should be united to pursue national development. He encouraged citizens to view each national achievement as a source of personal joy and pride, urging all to be patriotic and prioritise love for their nation.

Ihavandhoo and Maarandhoo Councils Share Concerns With Muizzu
Yesterday, Muizzu also visited Ihavandhoo and Maarandhoo in the same atoll. He met with the Island Councils, Women’s Development Committees (WDC), and the institutional heads of these islands. They shared the concerns their islands face with the president and the delegates accompanying him.
Ihavandhoo shared the challenges they face regarding converting the island’s school into a single-session school and the importance of building a hospital to further improve the island’s health. Additionally, they requested the inclusion of Huvahandhoo within Ihavandhoo’s jurisdiction.
The Marandhoo Council appealed to Muizzu to expedite the harbour expansion project and for a sustainable solution to the issue of erosion, as well as the challenges facing waste management and electricity provision. The Council also appealed to bring in resources and employees to ensure that the health centre of the island is upgraded to a level two facility. The Council further appealed for assistance in placing solar panels at the island’s main mosque.
