HPA Reports Over 60,000 Flu Cases in the Past Two Months
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) statistics indicate that more than 60,000 flu cases have been reported in the past two months. Specifically, there were 30,293 cases in July and 32,738 cases in June.
In July, 439 individuals with flu-like symptoms were tested, with 100 testing positive for the disease.
Additionally, there was a notable decrease in dengue fever cases, with 556 reported in July compared to 798 in June. Similarly, the number of diarrhoea cases also fell, with 5,179 cases reported in June and 5,053 in July.
As the Maldives continues to experience heavy rainfall, there is concern about a potential rise in mosquito-borne illnesses. It is advisable for residents to take preventive measures such as using mosquito repellents, draining stagnant water, and keeping doors and windows closed during peak mosquito activity times—dawn and dusk.
