HPA Reviews Mpox Threat in Maldives

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that it is currently assessing the risks associated with mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) in the Maldives and will soon issue guidance on public health measures.

An HPA official has indicated that no suspected cases have been reported in the Maldives to date. Further details regarding precautionary measures are expected to be announced later today.

In response to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) declaration of mpox as a global health threat, particularly in the African region, the Maldives has begun implementing appropriate measures.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confirmed that the organisation’s emergency committee has deemed the situation a global threat.
