Hulhule’ Sets the Highest 24-Hour Rainfall in the Maldives

In the latest data released by The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office), Hulhule’ has emerged as the island with the most substantial rainfall over a 24-hour period, spanning from December 31, 2023, to January 1, 2024, registering a notable 179.7mm.
Following closely, Male’ City experienced the second-highest precipitation at 118.2mm, while Goidhoo in Baa Atoll secured the third position with 105.6mm of rainfall.
Additional regions, including Dhiffushi in Kaafu Atoll, Muli in Meemu Atoll, and Kaadedhdhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, also reported significant rainfall during this period.
The Met Office disclosed that Hulhule’ has witnessed its most substantial rainfall in the last half-century.
Consequently, the relentless downpour has resulted in widespread flooding across multiple areas of the nation. Authorities have executed evacuations, relocating affected residents to temporary shelters.
