The Drug Enforcement and Marine Police are set to implement a 24-hour continuous patrol along the lagoon of Hulhumale’ to curb the trafficking of drugs and alcohol.

The decision, as disclosed in a statement released by the police today, emerged from a meeting spearheaded by Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau. The gathering included discussions with senior police officers from the Central Police Command, Operation Support Command, and Drug Enforcement, held at the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building.

Key outcomes of the meeting encompass a heightened focus on vessels departing for the provinces and an increased scrutiny of goods unloaded from docked vessels. Additionally, the gathering addressed concerns related to traffic management within the city.

As part of the new measures, the police force will intensify its presence on roads, with a primary objective of bolstering road safety and improving traffic management. Specific attention will be directed towards schools, hospitals, public spaces, and areas prone to traffic congestion, as highlighted in the statement.

These decisions are slated to come into effect starting next Tuesday, marking a proactive step by law enforcement to enhance security and tackle the challenges posed by drug trafficking in the region.
