The printing and issuance of the National Identity Cards has been launched in Hulhumale and Villimale today.

The service will now be available from the following locations:

– Hulhumale, Phase Two: Vinares Tower 2, First Floor

– Villimale: E Block, Ground Floor

In addition to these new facilities, 174 DNR (Department of National Registration) collection centres have been set up across the country. This is part of a broader project by the administration to decentralise the issuance of National Identity Cards and passports to all islands.

The ID card service, which started being offered online in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has since been streamlined. In March of last year, the previous portal was replaced with the DNR online platform.

Once an ID card is printed, the DNR will send it to the individual’s respective island. The government aims to complete the nationwide rollout of ID card services by the end of next year.
