Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has disclosed that over 10,000 people are currently on its waitlist for treatment, highlighting the challenges faced in managing patient demand.
According to information provided to Mihaaru News under the Right to Information Act, a total of 10,068 individuals were on the waitlist as of 26 October. The longest queue is in the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) department, which currently has 2,190 patients awaiting treatment. The department operates with five doctors and three nurses.
In contrast, the shortest waitlist is in the gynaecology department, where there are no pending patients. The department is staffed by 18 doctors and seven nurses.
During a press conference last month, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital, announced plans to establish GP clinics in four wards of Malé City. He explained that the initiative aims to ease pressure on specialists by enabling patients to consult through these clinics.
