However, he emphasised that this decision would hinge on the party’s commitment to eradicating corruption.
Ilyas, who secured third place in yesterday’s presidential election, during a press conference when queried by a journalist about the possibility of forming a coalition with either the PPM or the MDP, Ilyas indicated that he had not yet reached a decision regarding an alliance with any political party. Nevertheless, he underscored that the possibility remains open.
“As we engage in discussions with various stakeholders, our foremost consideration will be finding the most effective means to serve the Maldives and reach agreements in line with our convictions,” he stated.
In response to inquiries about whether he intends to join forces with another party in the upcoming stages of the political process, Ilyas remained non-committal, stating, “The people’s sentiment is quite clear to us,” without providing further elaboration.
Regarding the involvement of Mohamed Nasheed in his decision-making, Ilyas clarified that Nasheed had not yet urged him to align with any specific party.
Consequently, any decision by the Democrats to forge an alliance with another party would be determined collectively, he affirmed.
