According to Immigration, the operation was carried out in response to ongoing public concerns about expatriates dominating the area. As part of the operation, officials inspected expatriates congregating in the area, as well as businesses and outlets operated by expatriates nearby.
The 17 individuals detained were found to be residing in the country without valid visas.
Efforts to address illegal residency and employment of expatriates in the country began last year. Since then, over 5,000 expatriates have been deported, including some involved in prostitution and other criminal activities.
