Immigration Detains Seven Expatriates in Salon and Spa Inspections
Maldives Immigration has revealed the detention of seven expatriates following inspections at 22 locations across the Malé area.
These inspections were part of a special operation targeting salons and spas to ensure that all workers were in the country legally. In a statement on the social media platform X, Maldives Immigration confirmed that the operation was conducted in collaboration with Police Intelligence. The joint effort aims to identify and address illegal employment within the sector.
During the inspections, seven expatriate women were found to be working in violation of immigration laws. Notices were issued to seven individuals responsible for employing these workers.
Maldives Immigration has intensified its efforts to address illegal expatriate employment. To date, more than 3,000 expatriates have been deported under ongoing operations.
Immigration Detains 16 Undocumented Migrants for Running Illegal Businesses
Maldives Immigration has detained 16 undocumented migrants who were found to be running illegal businesses following inspections at four locations in Malé.
The announcement was made by Immigration through a post on X. The inspections took place on Tuesday in the Maafannu district as part of a broader operation targeting overcrowded migrant residences.
According to Immigration, the raid uncovered several businesses operating in unsanitary conditions, with various types of food being prepared and sold without proper hygiene measures. The 16 detained individuals were found to be living at these overcrowded locations.
While the expatriate population in the Maldives is notably high and contributes significantly to various sectors, the presence of undocumented migrants and illicit businesses run by expatriates remains a serious issue.
Immigration, in coordination with the Police and other relevant government authorities, is conducting regular raids to identify and deport undocumented migrants. These actions are part of an ongoing effort to address the issue of undocumented migration more effectively.
