Immigration Intercepts 45 Illegal Entries into the Maldives via Air Borders

Immigration Maldives have reported intercepting 45 attempts to illegally enter the country through its air borders from January 1 to September 30 this year.

The information was released by the Immigration department today and reveals that the interceptions involved various fraudulent documents, including counterfeit identification cards, passports, and resident visas.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, specifically between November 17 and December 31, Immigration made five interceptions. These included one case involving a counterfeit resident card and five cases of counterfeit passports.

During the first quarter of 2024 (January to March), there were eight interceptions, comprising one case of a counterfeit ID, six cases of counterfeit passports, and one case involving an imposter.

The second quarter of 2024 (April to June) saw a total of 17 interceptions, with one case involving a forged passport and 16 cases of counterfeit passports.

In the third quarter of 2024 (July to September), Immigration reported 20 interceptions. This included five cases of counterfeit passports, one case of a counterfeit ID, three cases of counterfeit bio pages, four cases involving imposters, two cases of counterfeit visas, and four cases of counterfeit stamps.

The statistics indicate a notable increase in interceptions throughout the year.
