Maldives Immigration has initiated an investigation into the case of blacklisting Skeelan Hussain, the stepmother of PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Muizzu has come under scrutiny following a documentary published by Adhadhu media.

The documentary alleges that Skeelan Hussain was blacklisted from entering the Maldives after the passing of Muizzu’s father while Muizzu held the position of Housing Minister in former President Abdulla Yameen’s government.

In this documentary, Skeelan, who was located in Sri Lanka at the time, provided her account of the situation.

The documentary featured several accusations made by Muizzu’s stepmother, including claims that she had been unable to enter the Maldives on a tourist visa. Additionally, correspondence addressed to relevant authorities was disclosed in the documentary.

A spokesperson for the Maldives Immigration provided a statement to the media on Wednesday, confirming that they had become aware of the situation regarding Skeelan Hussain’s entry being blocked.

The spokesperson stated, “The incident has been under investigation since its discovery.”

Following the release of the documentary, Muizzu affirmed that he had not violated anyone’s rights. The investigation into this matter continues, and authorities are working to ascertain the details surrounding the alleged illegal entry block.

Documents show that once Skeelan left the country, she was prevented from entering the country on charges of “illegal recruitment,” or illegal recruitment of people from abroad.

A police official also said no case had ever been reported to the police about the allegations.
