Indian High Commission Celebrates 76th Republic Day with Maldivian Dignitaries

The Indian High Commission in Maldives hosted a reception last night to commemorate India’s 76th Republic Day, attended by Maldivian government ministers, diplomats, and members of the Indian diaspora.
The event featured colourful cultural performances and welcomed notable Maldivian dignitaries, including Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, the chief guest. Other attending ministers included Family Development Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon, Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu, and Environment Minister Toriq Ibrahim.
Additional distinguished guests included Chief Justice Muthasim Adnan, MDP President and former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, and members of the Parliament. Indian High Commissioner G. Balasubramanian personally greeted the attendees.
The High Commissioner highlighted that 2025 marks a significant milestone in Maldives-India relations as the two nations celebrate 60 years of official diplomatic ties.
Balasubramanian also underscored the enduring ties between Maldives and India. He emphasised that Maldives is uniquely positioned in India’s foreign policy, particularly under the ‘Neighbourhood First’ initiative and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.
