Infant’s Body Sent to India for Autopsy
The body of a four-month-old infant found dead in K. Guraidhoo has been sent to India for an autopsy, authorities confirmed yesterday.
The infant passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning. Police have opted to conduct an autopsy due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
Ibrahim Shaleez, a member of the Guraidhoo Council, told Sun that the baby was brought to the island’s health centre around 12:30am on Saturday after being discovered unresponsive. Citing medical staff, he stated that the infant was already deceased when brought to the centre.
While the baby had bled from the nose, there were no visible external injuries.
Shaleez also noted that there are no suspicions regarding the infant’s family, who he said are deeply distressed by the situation.
The body was sent overseas for the autopsy five days after the infant’s death.
