The agreement was signed today in a ceremony at the Islamic Center, representing the university, Dr. Ali Zahir, the Vice Chancellor of IUM, inked the agreement along with Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
The Thinadhoo Islamic Center has been conceptualised with a design philosophy akin to the Male’ Islamic Centre, spanning 60,000 acres on the west side of the mosque and accommodating up to seventeen hundred people concurrently.
Ali Zahir highlighted that this agreement is poised to bring substantial benefits to the university, which currently conducts courses in Thinadhoo without a dedicated space. This development is anticipated to streamline the university’s operations on the island.
During the ceremony, Minister Shaheem articulated that the President’s overarching vision is to expand and fortify the endeavors of IUM, including the acquisition of a new building for the university.
The two-storey structure of the Islamic Center features a well-thought-out layout. The first floor comprises a conference hall, four classrooms, a library, an administrative office, and ablution facilities catering to men, women, and individuals with disabilities. Additional amenities on this floor include a pantry room, two storerooms, and an equipment room.
The second floor is designated for prayer, with an accompanying office and equipment room. This development marks a significant step forward for the Islamic University and its continued presence in Thinadhoo.
