Japan Provides MVR 15 Million in Scholarships to Maldives
The Japanese government has allocated MVR 15 million (approximately USD 1.02 million) to the Maldives to continue scholarship opportunities offered by Japan for the fiscal year 2024, under the Japanese Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS).
The Exchange of Notes was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Ms. Takeuchi Midori, during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Foreign Ministry, this grant will provide an additional six scholarships to Maldivian students this year. The scholarship programme, implemented by the Japanese government in August 2020, aims to promote human resource development in the Maldives. These scholarships include opportunities for master’s degree programmes at prestigious universities in Japan.
The Foreign Ministry noted that these scholarships will enable students to become individuals who contribute to the formulation and implementation of social and economic development policies in the future, playing a vital role in the country’s rebuilding efforts.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr. Maryam Mariya, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Ministry of Finance, Civil Service Commission, the Embassy of Japan, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
