Kaafu Atoll Records Highest Number of Substance Use Cases in the Maldives

The Maldives’ Health Ministry has disclosed that Kaafu Atoll has recorded the highest number of substance use cases in the nation, totaling a significant 2,298 cases.

Health Ministry has provided information on the distribution of substance use cases across other atolls in the Maldives. The statistics reveal the following:

  • Haa Alif Atoll: 252 cases
  • Haa Dhaalu Atoll: 407 cases
  • Sheenu Atoll: 195 cases
  • Noonu Atoll: 428 cases
  • Raa Atoll: 300 cases
  • Baa Atoll: 111 cases
  • Lhaviyani Atoll: 327 cases
  • Kaafu Atoll: 2,298 cases
  • Alif Alif Atoll: 94 cases
  • Alif Dhaalu Atoll: 131 cases
  • Vaavu Atoll: 37 cases
  • Meemu Atoll: 153 cases
  • Faafu Atoll: 52 cases
  • Dhaalu Atoll: 78 cases
  • Thaa Atoll: 405 cases
  • Laamu Atoll: 391 cases
  • Gaafu Alif Atoll: 384 cases

Health Ministry has also disclosed the nationalities of individuals involved in the illegal import of substances into the country. A total of 286 individuals have been linked to this illicit trade, with their nationalities as follows:
